SHAZAM!: A Lightning Strike of a Review

So I went to see SHAZAM! twice. The first was during Fandango Early Screening, and then I went to see this weekend but in 4DX. And I gotta say that I enjoyed it the first time, but I think I enjoyed it even more the second time around! This movie is so much fun and is incredibly funny. I love the direction the DC Cinematic Universe is taking. Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and now SHAZAM! have been so awesome to watch! This movie has so much heart and light to it, that it really just ties in altogether as one truly wonderful film.

Zachary Levi and Mark Strong play their roles perfectly. Levi really captures what it would be like if a teenager got superpowers, and Strong really nails down the villain role. There was a part towards the end where he does his bad guy monologue, and the way they played it differently, was so funny and a joy to watch. I actually thought about Kung Fu Panda 3 when Po was telling this foe that all he was doing was “Chit-chat chittity chat chat” haha. It is so good.

I gotta say that, I really need to give the producers and writers for making this family really work. They all came from different backgrounds in the movie and really drove the point home the meaning of family. And I loved the message of how you can come together with a common goal as long as you have your family on your side. Really enjoyed the chemistry and it was simply wonderful to watch.

SHAZAM! is just a really fun and enjoyable movie! Heart, laughs, a good story. It really took elements from many different films (Yes especially Tom Hanks’ Big). And plus this film gets extra love in my book, because of the Smallville nod ;). Overall, this is a film that I cannot wait to add to my collection so I can watch it over and over and over again. I originally gave this movie a 4 out of 5. But after seeing it again, I think I enjoyed it better the second time around. So my new rating is: 4.5 out of 5!
